Early Week Rumblings!

Card Games | May 14, 2008

In case you didn't know, Mondays and Tuesdays are a big deal here at Meta-Games.  For starters, we have MTG booster drafts each Monday night, and this past Monday, we had twelve players duke it out.  We had a Top 4 split (as usual) between Dave Eubanks, Ryan Sala, Neal Peterson, and Gary Glaser.  Pics below:

Round 4 action between Kevin Deleve and Ryan Sala

Round 4 action between Neal Peterson and Scottie Murphy.  Yeah, Neal, they don't make them like they used to, do they?

Some Standard playtesting between Michael Hilton and Andy Vick

Miniatures gaming has also exploded during the last few months.  We had several groups come in and get their game on.  Here's some snapshots:

Warmachine action.

Laurence Bryan getting ready for some Flames of War action on Tuesday.

Travis measuring during the Flames of War game on Tuesday.

Horrorclix on Tuesday night.  Elder's hard at work again.....

,,,and that brings me to master Pokemon trainer extraordinaire and Horrorclix player, Dane Wommack.  Dane posed the following question:  If you had a "Wonder Twin Power," what would you turn into?  Dane immediately answered his own question with, "A Wal-Mart Supercenter!"  Thanks, Dane, for that insight.  I was so (un)impressed with that response that I couldn't bring myself to question anyone else.

Dane with his infinite wisdom...

That's it for this week.  Check us out next week for our MTG draft Monday night, Star Wars Minis on Tuesday, and our first Horrorclix sealed pack event, also on Tuesday.  Also, come check us out this Sunday at noon for our Super Smash Bros. Brawl Free-For-All/1v1 event!

Poke-Saturday

Card Games | May 11, 2008

So, we had two big events planned for today. One was our Fake Magic States, which was a type 2 tournament with a cash prize, and the other was a Pokemon Pre-Release for the latest Poke-set, Majestic Dawn.

Our Fake States Tournament was...nonexistant. We had six players who showed up, which is a few shy for sanctioning, and the players seemed disinterested in a smaller scale nonsanctioned tournament. So I hooked everyone up with some promos we had some extras of. I want to thank everyone who came and tried to get this event going, and hopefully we'll have some better luck next time!

Top 6 split.

Pokemon seemed to go well, with around 20 participants. We will have some of the new set available as prizes for our weekly tournament next week, so that should give you a chance to get some a bit early!

Just when you think you've caught them all...

Some other happenings throughout the afternoon.

Some Veteran's League 40K action between Pooker and Landon

These guys. Playing Descent. Who would have guessed?

Someday I'll have some pictures of what happens after I go home at 6:01, but until then I'll just assume it was a siesta. See you next week!

Super Smash Brothers Tournament

News | May 10, 2008

Since our first Smash Brothers tournament went very well, we decided to give it another go! On Sunday, May 18th, we will be hosting a multi-format Smash Brothers Brawl tournament. Entry fee will be $2 per person, and all of the entry taken will be given back out in cash to the top 4 finishers (or top 8 if over 128 people show up). Registration will begin at 11 and the event will start at Noon.

The first two rounds of the tournament will be 4 Player free for all set on stock 3 with a 5 minute time limit. All items will be off. Each player will be awarded 3 points for a win, 2 points for second, and 1 point for third. Players also receive an additional point for each knockout they receive credit for. After these two rounds we will take the top 32 players and set them up in a single elminination bracket of 1v1 play, which will also be stock 3 with a 5 minute time limit with no items.

Stages:

For the first two rounds, I will have everyone playing the exact same stage, so that no one will have unfair advantages over each other. So that you can prepare, the stages will be Temple for the first round, and Battlefield for the second round.

For the 1v1 rounds, the first stage will be chosen at random and after that it will be the losers choice for stage. Banned stages for this round include:
Mushroomy Kingdom
Rumble Falls
Donkey Kong 75m
Spear Pillar
Port Town Aero Dive
Wario Ware
The Summit
Mario Bros.
New Pork City
Flat Zone 2
Temple
Big Blue
Jungle Japes

If anyone has any questions or concerns, email me (jwinters@mguinc.com) or post on our forums. Thanks for all the interest and hopefully this event will be as great as our last one!

Friday Notes

Card Games | May 10, 2008

Friday night was once a night dominated by Magic players. Slowly over the past year or so the miniature players have been taking over. With tons of miniature leagues, whether it be the Slow Grow or Veteran's 40K leagues, or the Call to Arms Warmachine/Hordes league, its a good time to be into miniatures.

Slow Grow action seems to be almost nonstop here at the shop.

Some of the usual Warmachine antics.

Jeff Jones showing people what time it is.

But fear not, Magic fans. Your numbers are still many, and we are currently working on something to bring some bigger spotlights to your great game. We are planning something fairly huge for June, as well as a PTQ coming in July (Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Block Constructed), so the hits will continue to come!

Top 4 of FNM, PENICK IS WINNER!

Hope to see some people out for our cash Magic tourney tomorrow, as well as our Pokemon Pre-Release. Until then!

-Jeff

Upcoming Releases!

The Future of Gaming!

Warhammer Wednesday!

Card Games | May 8, 2008

This Wednesday was the big kickoff of our Warhammer 40K League Night. I'd say it went pretty well, with having 2 to 5 games going at once throughout the night. Lots of people playing, and also some assembling. So whether your wanting to get started playing with our slow grow league, or wanting to play one of your old favorites in the veteran's league, Wednesday night can make it happen.

Some Tao vs Tyranids 400 point action.

Slow growers getting their armies ready to go!

Witch Hunters vs Chaos Veteran's League game.

Joe wanted me to make sure I got a picture of his incredible roll here. So here it is...sideways!

Twelve drafters tonight, the usual Meta-Games-style top 4 split.

Everyone sitting at private tables during deck construction. Pretty awesome.

Wednesday also means new releases. This week we got in both Aquaretto and Tzaar, both of which have been pretty anticipated.

I know we got these in today (Thursday), but I couldn't resist posting them. Both of the new Chaos Daemons books are in stock now!

There ya go, thanks for reading!
