We're starting a game on Friday nights, meeting every two weeks, of 4th ed. D&D with a custom world (so not out of a campaign handbook). I've got two players at the moment and would like five total, so if you're free and would like to join us, we'd be glad to have you.
The first session will be group character building, so come with ideas and blank sheets. I'd like the group to work together to build a party. In addition, the first session will be a quick dungeon so everyone can get to know each other and their chosen characters. This first session is a freebie, so if you don't like your character, class, race, whatever, it can be changed. No strings attached to this first session--it won't be set in the campaign setting and it will have no affect on the actual game that will begin two weeks later. Schedule: Games will meet at my house, partly because I'm a rather lazy DM who doesn't like carting books around, and partly because it's comfortable with lots of room and potential for cooking meals/snack and/or storing beverages. Proposed time is Friday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. and going until we finish or 11 p.m., whichever comes first. First game will be on June 12 with additional games to follow every other week thereafter. This schedule should be solid through the summer but might need to be revamped once the school year starts. About the group: Also, just some background on the three of us already in the group, we're in our mid-twenties, no kids, but I'm married and another will be married come October. That being said, I don't mind younger people, provided they're fairly mature. There will be swearing, and there will likely be alcohol. You won't get any if you're not 21. On the other end of the spectrum, we've gamed with people up through their forties and fifties, so we're an equal-opportunity gaming group. Bit of ground rules: You must own a Player's Handbook. For years and years I've been the only one to supply the books (with maybe one other for the whole group) and it just slows down the game too much. If you can't get the PHB, at least print out the pertinent pages (race, class, powers, your particular skills, etc.). Regardless, this is info you need to have. You're welcome to run a race/class from the PHB2, but the same rule applies. You need to have the book. No tieflings, at least for this first run. You'll find out why as the story progresses, but in short I'm not interested in a Drizzt PC. I don't like add-on books. Normally I wouldn't even accept the PHB2, but I really like the 4th ed. one and it seems pretty balanced. Beyond that, don't expect to see anything but the core rulebooks. Recommended: Dice + Pen & Paper. I've got extra dice and there are always pencils and pieces of paper, but it's nice if you have your own. You must be committed to the regularly scheduled gaming sessions. If one person can't make it then I prefer to cancel the session altogether rather than screw up the party dynamic. I've bent on this before and likely will again, but especially since we're only meeting every other week, it's really important that we put this on our calendars and actually show up. Of course, the group likewise must recognize that sometimes things happen, like family trips or birthdays or something that would get in the way of the session. Just make sure the group knows in advance so we can reschedule around it. Post or PM with questions. As the DM, I reserve the right to make the final call on joining/playing, so it's not first-come-first-serve. But after eight years in the chair, I've found I can get along with most players, so don't hesitate to post. Edit:: One of the players immediately told me that he has to attend a family thing on May 29th that he just found out about yesterday >.< That's how these things go sometimes. I'm out of town the weekend of June 5th, so the first session will now have to be June 12th. This post has been edited by dmmagic: May 29 2009, 09:34 AM |

I'd love to play in something like this, but one evening every 2 weeks is a bit of a tease! Any chance you'll move it to weekly?

I had originally planned on weekly Saturday nights, but one player requested Fridays instead and I'm not willing to give up every Friday night for D&D. With each session being 4-5 hours long, I think we can manage every other week just fine. |

Sorry :-\ I don't see us moving to every week in the short term. Right now from MGU I've got Dugan and Mrurth. TBH, I don't mind six players if you at least want to come to the first one and see how it goes. That might be a good idea, as long as you're sure there is room irl and in game. -------------------- -Will

That might be a good idea, as long as you're sure there is room irl and in game. Our kitchen table can seat 10 :-D We'll be just fine. 4th ed makes scaling the encounters a lot easier than previous version of D&D, IMO, so I don't anticipate any problems. I'll send out more info on the game, location (address), and contact details this coming week. |
